Fish Finder Rig / Running Ledger

Also called a running ledger. A sinker slide lets the line run freely through the weight, so a fish can pick up the bait and swim off without feeling the sinker.

Step-by-step build instructions

  1. 1

Slide the sinker slide onto the main line.

  2. 2

Add a bead to protect the knot.

  3. 3

Tie the line to a barrel swivel (improved clinch).

  4. 4

Tie an 18–36 in leader to the other eye.

  5. 5

    Tie on the circle hook.

  6. 6

Clip on the sinker and bait the hook. Line runs free through the slide.

BigJoe Tips

  • Use the lightest sinker that holds bottom.
  • Pyramid sinkers grip sand; bank sinkers roll less on rubble.
  • Leave a little slack so the fish can run with the bait.
  • Keep the rod in a holder with the drag set light.

Variations

  • Use an egg sinker instead of a slide in light current.
  • Longer leader in clear water, shorter in rough surf.
  • Add a float bead to lift the bait off the bottom.
  • Use a snap on the slide to change sinkers quickly.
