Mangroves & river mouths
Roots, shade and brackish water. A nursery for young fish and a hunting ground for big ones.
BigJoe tip: Work the shady roots on a falling tide, early and late.

Flats & seagrass
Clear, shallow sand and grass where fish come up to feed on shrimp and crabs.
BigJoe tip: Wade or pole quietly, sun at your back, and look for tails and shadows.

Patch reefs
Coral heads scattered over sand. Full of snapper, grunts, hogfish and lobster.
BigJoe tip: Anchor up-current, chum lightly and drift small baits back to the coral.

Reef edge & drop-off
Where the reef falls off into deep water. Current, bait and big predators.
BigJoe tip: Troll or drift the edge where the current pushes bait against the wall.

Deep ledges
Rocky ledges and humps far below. Deep-drop country for the prettiest snapper.
BigJoe tip: Mark the hump on the fish finder, then drop heavy rigs straight down.

Blue water
Open ocean. Fish follow weed lines, floating debris, birds and temperature edges.
BigJoe tip: Troll the weed lines and run to the birds. Anything floating can hold fish.

- Edges are where fish gather: where shallow meets deep, grass meets sand, or clear water meets green.
- A fish finder shows depth, structure and bait. Mark the good spots and go back.
