Cancún and Isla Mujeres Offshore (Mexico) Fishing Guide
Isla Mujeres and Cancún are known for winter-spring sailfish that crash bait balls of sardines, often marked by diving birds. White marlin show up in late spring, and blue marlin are possible. In summer the same waters fill with whale sharks, which are for viewing only.

Tips
- Look for diving birds - they usually mark the sardine bait balls and the sailfish.
- Skip your bait right through the bait ball; baits off to the side get ignored.
- The local fleet trolls dead baits (ballyhoo, split-tail mullet, squid) on circle hooks; Marlin Magazine reports live bait is not allowed.
- Take turns on the bait balls and practice good sportsmanship with other boats.
- Expect wind and 3-6 foot seas; it often helps the bite.
