FISHING GUIDE · VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO
Vieques Fishing Guide
Vieques gives you healthy bonefish and tarpon on quiet flats and mangroves, with few other anglers around. From Esperanza, boats head offshore for wahoo, mahi-mahi, blue marlin and blackfin tuna. Much of the coast is wildlife refuge, so the scenery stays wild.
📍 Island municipality of Vieques, southeast of Fajardo. Isabel Segunda is the main town on the north coast and Esperanza is on the south coast. The Vieques National Wildlife Refuge covers the west and east ends. Ferries leave from Ceiba, about 30 minutes away.

Tips
- Never enter closed refuge areas on the east end. Unexploded ordnance is still there. If you see something that looks like a munition, do not touch it. Leave and report it.
- Take the ferry from Ceiba (about 30 minutes) and arrive at least an hour early. There is no public ferry between Vieques and Culebra.
- Release all bonefish, tarpon and permit. Puerto Rico law requires it.
- Fish only in refuge bays, beaches and lagoons that are outside restricted areas, and follow posted signs.
- Do not eat big barracuda or other large reef predators because of the ciguatera risk.
