How to fish it
- 1
Cast well onto or past the weed mat; the frog's upturned double hook rides over the vegetation.
- 2
Hop and twitch it across the mat with slack line, pausing in holes and at the edges.
- 3
In open water, walk it side to side with short twitches like a walking topwater.
- 4
When a fish blows up on it, wait until you feel the weight, then reel down and set hard with a long sweep.
BigJoe Tips
- Count a beat after the blow-up; bass often miss on the first try and come back.
- Trim the rubber legs shorter to get more hookups on short strikes.
- Squeeze water out of the body after a fish so it keeps floating right.
Mistakes to avoid
- Setting the hook the instant you see the splash and pulling it away from the fish.
- Using mono or light line that cannot drag a bass out of the mat.
