Step-by-step build instructions

  1. 1

Tie the hook to the end of the line.

  2. 2

Pinch 1–3 split shot about 12–18 in above the hook.

  3. 3

Use pliers, not your teeth, to close the shot.

  4. 4

    Add the bait.

  5. 5

Cast and let it sink naturally, or drift it in current.

  6. 6

Add or remove shot to match depth and current.

BigJoe Tips

  • Removable shot (with ears) is easy to adjust.
  • Spread the shot out for a slower fall.
  • In current, add shot until the bait just ticks bottom.
  • Lead-free shot is kinder to waterfowl.

Variations

  • Finesse worm on an EWG hook for bass.
  • Add a bobber and it becomes a bobber rig.
  • Small egg sinker instead of shot.
  • Use it for live shrimp in rivers.
