How to fish it

How to fish it
  1. 1

Cast up-current or along the edge of a jetty, mangrove line or beach trough.

  2. 2

Start a slow, steady retrieve so the lure digs in and wobbles a foot or two down.

  3. 3

Add a few short rod twitches now and then to make it flash and dart like a hurt baitfish.

  4. 4

Let it float up for a second after a twitch; many strikes come on the pause.

BigJoe Tips

  • Use a loop knot or a small snap, not a heavy swivel; it kills the wobble.
  • Many pros swap the stock hooks and split rings for stronger ones before chasing big snook or jacks.
  • At night, fish it slow along the shadow line of a dock or bridge light; that is where snook wait.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Reeling too fast, which makes it roll out and spin instead of swim.
  • Tying it on with a tight clinch knot and a big swivel, choking the action.
