How to fish it

How to fish it
  1. 1

Slide a bullet weight on the line, tie on an offset worm hook, and rig the worm straight with the point tucked back into the plastic.

  2. 2

Cast past a laydown, rock pile or weed edge and let it sink on a slack line until it hits bottom.

  3. 3

Lift the rod tip slowly from 9 to 11 o'clock to crawl or hop the worm, then reel up the slack.

  4. 4

Any tick, thump or line moving sideways: reel down and set the hook hard to drive the point through the plastic.

BigJoe Tips

  • Peg the weight with a bobber stop when fishing weeds so the worm and sinker stay together.
  • Most bites come on the fall. Watch your line, not just the rod tip.
  • If the bass are short-striking, drop to a smaller worm before you change color.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Hopping it too fast; slow and steady on the bottom gets more bites.
  • A soft hookset that never gets the point through the plastic.
