How to fish it
- 1
Thread a craw or creature trailer for a flipping jig, or a paddle-tail or chunk trailer for a swim jig.
- 2
Flipping: pitch it to cover, let it fall to the bottom, then hop and drag it slowly out.
- 3
Swim jig: cast along weed edges and reel steadily a foot or two under the surface with small twitches.
- 4
Any tap or the line going slack on the fall: reel down and set hard.
BigJoe Tips
- Match the trailer to the speed: bulky trailers slow the fall, slim trailers speed it up.
- Trim the weedguard a little if you are missing fish in open water.
- Keep the hook sharp; jig hooks dull fast on rocks.
Mistakes to avoid
- Working it too fast; a jig on the bottom should crawl.
- Using too heavy a jig in shallow water so it crashes in and spooks fish.
