Step-by-step build instructions

  1. 1

Tie the main line to the cork’s top wire eye (cupped end).

  2. 2

Cut a leader 18–36 in, set just above the grass or bottom.

  3. 3

Tie the leader to the bottom wire eye.

  4. 4

Tie on the hook or jig.

  5. 5

Add a live shrimp (under the horn) or a soft plastic.

  6. 6

Cast, then pop it with a sharp twitch. Pause 5–10 seconds and repeat.

BigJoe Tips

  • Set the leader so the bait rides just above the grass.
  • Pop, then pause: most strikes come on the pause.
  • Louder pops in choppy water, softer in calm water.
  • When the cork goes down, reel tight before you lift.

Variations

  • Shorter leader over shallow grass, longer in channels.
  • Use a jig head and soft plastic instead of live shrimp.
  • Rattle corks add even more noise.
  • Size up the leader (30–40 lb) around mangroves for snook.
