How to fish it
- 1
Drop the jig to the bottom and engage the reel as soon as it touches.
- 2
Reel back up at a slow, steady pace with no jerks for 10-20 turns.
- 3
If you feel taps, keep reeling at the same speed until the rod loads.
- 4
Drop back down and repeat; change speed until you find what the fish want.
BigJoe Tips
- Do not set the hook on the first taps; keep reeling until the fish loads the rod.
- Not the same as a freshwater bass jig; for that, see Bass Jig.
- Carry spare skirts and trailers; triggerfish chew them up.
Mistakes to avoid
- Jerking the rod like a regular jig; it works best with a steady reel.
- Stopping the retrieve when you feel a bite.
