JIGS & BOTTOM LURES
Yo-Yo Iron
A heavy, compact metal jig dropped to the bottom and cranked back up as fast as possible; it gets down fast and draws reaction strikes from jacks and tunas.

How to fish it
- 1
Free-spool the iron straight to the bottom.
- 2
Engage the reel the instant it touches so it does not snag.
- 3
Crank as fast as you can for 20-30 turns with the rod in a fixed position.
- 4
If nothing hits, drop it back down and repeat.
BigJoe Tips
- A high-gear reel matters more than the jig itself; speed gets bites.
- Swap trebles for a single hook to snag less on the bottom.
- Add a short wire leader when kingfish are around.
Mistakes to avoid
- Waiting too long on the bottom and getting snagged in the rocks.
- Cranking too slowly; a slow iron looks fake.
