How to fish it
- 1
Drop the spoon over the fish and let it flutter down on a controlled, semi-slack line.
- 2
Watch the line; if it jumps or stops early, close the bail and set the hook.
- 3
At depth, lift the rod high in a big sweep, then drop it back so the spoon flutters again.
- 4
Work it up 20-40 feet and send it back down.
BigJoe Tips
- Most hits come on the fall, so watch your line more than you feel it.
- An assist hook at the top of the spoon snags less than a bottom treble.
- Change spoon width before changing color; wider spoons fall slower.
Mistakes to avoid
- Free-falling with total slack and never seeing the bite.
- Reeling it straight back like a casting spoon; it is a vertical lure.
