OFFSHORE TROLLING & TEASERS
Deep-Diving Trolling Plug
A big hard plug with a large lip that dives roughly 20-40+ ft when trolled, putting a wobbling baitfish down where wahoo, kingfish and tuna feed.

How to fish it
- 1
Attach it with a short wire leader and a strong snap or loop to the plug's eye so it can wobble freely.
- 2
Let out enough line for it to reach its working depth, then mark it so you can set the same distance every time.
- 3
Troll at the speed the maker lists for that plug; if the rod tip stops pulsing or the plug skips to the surface, slow down.
- 4
Run it along drop-off edges and over banks, where fish hold below the surface lures.
BigJoe Tips
- Braid lets a plug dive deeper than thick mono at the same line length.
- A deep plug in the middle of a surface spread covers two depths at once.
- If the plug runs off to one side, gently bend the eye the opposite way until it tracks straight.
Mistakes to avoid
- Trolling faster than the plug is built for, so it rolls and comes to the surface.
- Running it over shallow reef where the lip digs in and snags.
