How to fish it
- 1
Rig it weedless on a wide-gap or weighted worm hook, with the point just skin-hooked into the back so it slides through mangroves and grass.
- 2
Cast tight to cover, potholes or a feeding school and let it settle a second.
- 3
Give two or three short, sharp rod twitches with slack in the line so the bait darts left and right.
- 4
Pause and let it glide or sink slowly; the strike often comes on the pause, so watch the line.
BigJoe Tips
- Twitch on a slack line; pulling on a tight line just drags the bait straight instead of making it dart.
- When a fish swirls and misses, keep twitching in place; it usually comes back.
- A drop of super glue at the head keeps the bait from sliding down the hook after a few bites.
Mistakes to avoid
- Working it nonstop with no pauses, so fish never get a clean shot at it.
- Setting the hook too early on a swirl before the fish has the bait.
