SOFT PLASTICS
Paddletail Swimbait
A soft baitfish with a kicking paddle tail that swims on a plain steady retrieve, making it one of the easiest and most reliable lures for snook, jacks and bass.

How to fish it
- 1
Rig it on a jig head or weighted swimbait hook heavy enough to reach the depth you want, with the hook point coming out straight on the back.
- 2
Cast past the spot you think holds fish: a mangrove point, jetty corner, channel edge or weed line.
- 3
Let it sink to the depth you want, then reel slow and steady so the tail just keeps kicking.
- 4
If nothing bites, change speed or add a short pause or twitch; most hits come right after a change.
BigJoe Tips
- Count it down after the cast so you can repeat the depth where you got the bite.
- If fish short-strike and only nip the tail, go down one size before changing color.
- Keep the bait rigged perfectly straight; a crooked swimbait spins and fish ignore it.
Mistakes to avoid
- Reeling too fast so the lure runs up near the surface over the fish.
- Using a jig head so heavy the bait drags and snags on the bottom.
