SOFT PLASTICS
Artificial Shrimp
A soft shrimp imitation, usually pre-weighted, that sinks and hops like a fleeing shrimp; almost every inshore fish in the Caribbean eats shrimp.

How to fish it
- 1
Tie it straight to your leader with a loop knot so it can swing and fall naturally.
- 2
Cast up-current or ahead of the fish and let it sink toward the bottom on a semi-slack line.
- 3
Lift the rod tip in short, gentle hops, then let it fall back; real shrimp flick backwards and settle.
- 4
Most bites come as it falls, so watch for the line to jump or go slack and reel up tight to set.
BigJoe Tips
- Slower is better; most people work a shrimp lure far too fast.
- Under a popping cork it becomes a great beginner rig for drifting grass flats and channel edges.
- At night, drift it with the current along the shadow line of a lighted bridge or dock.
Mistakes to avoid
- Ripping it hard and fast like a jig, which no real shrimp does.
- Using a weight so heavy it buries in the bottom and grass.
