Snorkel, Dive & Spearfishing

Masks, fins, pole spears, spearguns, dive knives, floats and flags for the reefs of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Out on the bay, in the mangroves or on the open ocean, the everyday struggles get left behind at the dock. For those few hours, it’s just you, the smell of the sea and a feeling of peace, until the bite starts and it’s nothing but joy and excitement.

BigJoe’s buying guide

Snorkel, Dive & Spearfishing

Start with a mask that fits

Press the mask to your face without the strap and breathe in through your nose. If it stays on, it fits. Low-volume masks are easier to clear and equalize when you dive down.

Pole spear or speargun?

A pole spear is cheap, simple and perfect for lionfish and close shots. Spearguns reach farther for snapper and hogfish. Learn the local rules first: in Puerto Rico, spearfishing with scuba is not allowed and many reserves are closed to all fishing (they're marked in red on BigJoe's maps).

Be seen, dive with a buddy

Always tow a diver-down flag on a float so boats keep clear, and never free dive alone. A knife on your leg cuts you free of line or nets.
