Braid, fluorocarbon, monofilament and wire: the right line for every fish.
Out on the bay, in the mangroves or on the open ocean, the everyday struggles get left behind at the dock. For those few hours, it’s just you, the smell of the sea and a feeling of peace, until the bite starts and it’s nothing but joy and excitement.
Braid is thin, strong and has no stretch, so you feel every bite and cast farther. 20 to 30 lb braid is BigJoe's everyday inshore line; 50 to 80 lb for offshore and reef fishing.
Leaders that fish can't see
Tie 2 to 4 feet of fluorocarbon leader to the braid. It's nearly invisible in clear Caribbean water and resists rocks and teeth better than mono. Use wire only for toothy fish like kingfish, wahoo and barracuda.
Know your knots
Most lost fish are lost at the knot. Learn an FG or double uni to join braid to leader, and a Palomar or improved clinch for the hook.
