How to fish it
- 1
Clip a small bobber 1-4 ft above the jig, or use a slip bobber with a stop knot for deeper water.
- 2
Cast near docks, weed edges, shade or bedding areas and let the jig settle under the bobber.
- 3
Twitch the bobber every few seconds so the jig hops and the marabou breathes, then let it sit.
- 4
When the bobber dips or swims off, reel up the slack and lift the rod gently; small mouths need a light set.
BigJoe Tips
- Tip the jig with a small piece of worm when the bite is slow.
- Once you catch one, fish the same depth; sunfish school tightly.
- Tilapia often ignore lures, so expect more sunfish than tilapia on a jig.
Mistakes to avoid
- A bobber that is too big, so fish feel it and let go.
- Line that is too heavy, which kills the action of a tiny jig.
