How to fish it

How to fish it
  1. 1

Thread it on a jig head with the tail curling up and the body straight.

  2. 2

Cast out and let it fall on a tight line; many fish hit it on the first drop.

  3. 3

Either reel it back slowly so the tail swims, or hop it along the bottom with short lifts of the rod.

  4. 4

If you feel tap-tap bites with no hookup, slow down or go to a smaller grub.

BigJoe Tips

  • A grub on a jig head is one of the best ways to teach kids and beginners to feel a bite.
  • Tip it with a small piece of shrimp when the bite is slow in salt water.
  • Carry a pack each of white and chartreuse and you can fish almost anywhere.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Rigging the tail pointing down, which kills the action.
  • Using line so heavy the little jig cannot sink or swim naturally.
