Parks & rules

Data rule: Challenger Bank, Argus Bank and North Rock come from the Marine Regions (VLIZ) gazetteer, and the harbours, sounds and bays from OpenStreetMap; these are general centers, not pinpoints, and each star says so. Docks and ramps come from OpenStreetMap, and the parks and nature reserves come from the World Database on Protected Areas: no-take areas are solid red, others dashed red. Every star shows its source when you tap it. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

Wahoo, tuna and blue marlin in the middle of the Atlantic

Bermuda sits on top of an old volcano in the open Atlantic, and the deep blue water comes right up to its reef. The offshore Challenger and Argus banks, a short run from the island, are famous for wahoo, yellowfin and blackfin tuna and amberjack, and in summer blue marlin draw anglers from all over the world.

Inside the reef, the harbours, sounds and bays hold snapper, jacks and bream, and the south-shore beaches have bonefish that anglers cast to from the sand and rocks.

Rules: Bermuda protects many species, including groupers in seasonal closed areas and all parrotfish, and spearfishing has strict rules. Check Bermuda's Department of Environment and Natural Resources before you go.
