Data rule: Islands, wrecks, fishing piers, jetties, marinas and boat ramps come from OpenStreetMap. Protected areas come from the World Database on Protected Areas. Fishing spots are only placed on mapped named places, and never inside or next to an area closed to fishing. Boat ramps on inland lakes are left off. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

Palm Beach sailfish, Sebastian Inlet snook and Mosquito Lagoon redfish

The Gulf Stream runs closest to shore off Palm Beach and Jupiter, so sailfish, kingfish, mahi-mahi and wahoo are caught only a few miles out, best for sailfish in the winter. The inlets at Palm Beach, Jupiter, Stuart, Fort Pierce and Sebastian are famous for snook, especially in the summer, and for tarpon during the fall mullet run. The Indian River Lagoon, the Banana River and Mosquito Lagoon are shallow, clear water with big redfish, speckled trout and snook on the flats. Further north, the piers and jetties at Daytona, St. Augustine and Jacksonville have whiting, pompano, sheepshead, flounder and redfish, and the St. Johns River mouth and Nassau Sound are good for bull reds.

Merritt Island and Canaveral National Seashore allow fishing in most areas, but some places around the space center are closed. Snook, redfish and trout have seasons, slot sizes and bag limits, and you need a Florida saltwater fishing license unless you fish from a licensed pier. Check the FWC rules before you go.
