Data rule: The bays, settlements and rivers come from OpenStreetMap; they are general positions, not pinpoints, and each star says so. Jetties and slipways come from OpenStreetMap, and the nature reserves come from the World Database on Protected Areas, shown in dashed red. Every star shows its source when you tap it. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

Sea trout at the bottom of the world

The Falklands are famous for sea trout: brown trout brought from Britain long ago that now run to sea and come back to the rivers big and silver. The Murrell River near Stanley, the San Carlos River, and the Warrah and Chartres rivers on West Falkland are the best known, with the best runs in spring and autumn.

In the harbors and creeks, Falkland mullet and rock cod are easy fishing from the shore.

Rules: most rivers run through private farms, so always ask the landowner first, and check the Falkland Islands Government's fishing rules and seasons before you go.
