Parks & rules

Data rule: Islands, rocks, marinas and boat ramps come from OpenStreetMap. Marine parks come from the World Database on Protected Areas. Fishing spots are only placed on mapped islands and rocks, and never inside or next to a no-fishing area. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

Deep water close to shore

The west coast of Basse-Terre and all of Dominica drop off fast into deep water, so blue-water fish come close to shore: wahoo, tuna, mahi-mahi and blue marlin, plus deep-drop snappers. Fishing boats work the many fish aggregating devices (FADs) offshore. On the reef side, the rocks and islets around Les Saintes, the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin reefs north of Guadeloupe, and the shores of Marie-Galante and La Désirade hold snappers, groupers, jacks and barracuda. The map shows the fishing ports where local boats tie up.

The Pigeon Islets (Cousteau Reserve), the core of Guadeloupe National Park, Petite Terre and the Soufrière–Scott's Head reserve in Dominica limit or ban fishing. They show in red on the map.
