Parks & rules

Data rule: Stars are OpenStreetMap town positions on the lake or river; these are general positions, not pinpoints, and each star says so. Docks come from OpenStreetMap; very few are mapped here. Reserves come from the World Database on Protected Areas, shown in dashed red. Every star shows its source when you tap it. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

From the Altiplano to the Amazon

Lake Titicaca sits at about 3,800 meters between Bolivia and Peru, with rainbow trout and pejerrey. Below the Andes, the Beni, Mamoré and Ichilo rivers in Bolivia have golden dorado, surubí and pacú, and the paiche (arapaima) has spread into the Bolivian Amazon from Peru.

In Peru, Iquitos and the Pacaya-Samiria reserve are peacock bass and paiche country, and the Madre de Dios at Puerto Maldonado has big catfish and pacú.

Rules: closed seasons and limits change by country, much of this water is inside reserves and indigenous territories, and you should fish with a local guide.
