Data rule: Marinas, launches, bays, points and islands come from OpenStreetMap; river spots sit on the OpenStreetMap river line nearest the named town, and lake spots are the general center of the lake, not a pinpoint. National parks, Quebec national parks, national wildlife areas and the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park come from the World Database on Protected Areas and are shown in dashed red, because fishing there follows their own rules. Every star shows its source when you tap it. BigJoe does not invent coordinates.

Salmon rivers, walleye lakes and the mighty St. Lawrence

Quebec has some of the most famous Atlantic salmon rivers in the world, like the Moisie, the Matane and the Sainte-Marguerite, fished with a fly from the same pools for over a century. Lac Saint-Jean is home to the ouananiche, a landlocked salmon, and the Saguenay Fjord is so deep and salty that in winter an ice-fishing village goes up at La Baie to catch cod, redfish and Greenland halibut.

Near Montreal, the St. Lawrence, Lac Saint-Louis, Lac des Deux Montagnes and the Richelieu River hold walleye, northern pike, bass and muskie, and the striped bass is back in the river around Quebec City. Farther north, the Baskatong and Gouin reservoirs are walleye and pike country, reached through outfitters.

Rules: you need a Quebec sport fishing licence, and salmon fishing also needs a daily river access right from the local ZEC or outfitter. Seasons and limits change by fishing zone, and yellow perch fishing in Lac Saint-Pierre has been closed since 2012. Check the Quebec sport fishing regulations before you go.
