Blue marlin, Pedro Bank and the Cayman wall
Jamaica drops into deep water close to shore along most of the north coast, so boats out of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio troll for blue marlin, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, sailfish and mahi-mahi a short run from the dock. Port Antonio is home to one of the oldest marlin tournaments in the Caribbean. On the south side, Pedro Bank and the Morant Cays are big, shallow offshore banks with snappers, groupers, jacks and kingfish, and the Treasure Beach and Black River coast is famous for its fishing villages. In the Cayman Islands the reef wall falls into thousands of feet of water right off the beach, so wahoo, tuna and mahi are close in, and the flats of North Sound and Little Cayman hold bonefish and tarpon.
Jamaica has many Fish Sanctuaries, and the Cayman Islands have Marine Parks, Replenishment Zones and seasonal Grouper Spawning Sites where taking fish is banned or limited. They show in red on the map, and BigJoe does not put fishing spots in or next to them. In the Cayman Islands most reef water is inside these zones, so check the Department of Environment rules before you fish.
