Big rivers, mountain streams and a thousand lakes
Ukraine is a country of big rivers. The Dnipro runs through Kyiv and a chain of huge reservoirs full of zander, bream, pike and giant wels catfish. In the west, the Carpathian streams hold wild trout and grayling, the Dniester winds through deep canyons, and in the south the Danube spreads into a delta of reeds and canals. North of the border, Belarus has hundreds of clear glacial lakes and the wild Pripyat marshes.
Rules: Ukraine is at war. Before any trip, check your government's travel advice, curfews and local rules. Under martial law, beaches, river banks near bridges and dams, and the Black Sea are often closed, and there are mines along the coast and in some front-line areas, which are left off this map. In Belarus, fishing rules and paid waters vary, and the zone along the Ukrainian border needs a special pass. Strict nature reserves are closed to fishing, and national parks have their own rules.
On the bay, in the mangroves or on the ocean, the everyday struggles get left at the dock. For those few hours, it's just you, the water and peace.
